About a year ago, I made a post about using jScrollPane for customizing scrollbars with CSS. Recently I did a project that required this feature to be implemented in various ways. One of these implementations required these custom scrollbars to be applied within Tabbed content.
Theming Toolbox
My favorite modules and other helpers for theming.
Over time I have collected a number of modules and tools that have helped me to do theme Drupal sites more efficiently. This post is all about sharing that information with you!
The Form Hunt
Finding the way to create custom form templates in Drupal 7
Sometimes getting started in Form API can be like opening random doors until you find a piece of what you are looking for. Then you have to put it all together. When I first discovered a preprocess function that allowed me to create Drupal forms in a template file, I finally felt that I had complete control of controling the user experience.
Theming Night In Indianapolis
The Drupal Indy Meetup this month is all about theming.
Next week I will be leading the theming night at our Drupal Indy group meetup on the IUPUI campus. I've been looking forward to sharing some of the tips and tricks that I use on a daily basis. The topics will begin with using Subthemes, Template files, and Preprocess functions to get the output that you need.
Symlink Soup
Symlinking makes for easier updates and quicker reverts if necessary.
Recently I started setting my websites up with this symlink structure that I absolutely love. This setup allows me to quickly switch between versions of Drupal, so when there is an update, I could quickly revert to the previous install if something breaks horribly.
Shadowbox Captions
You may have thought captions were a limitation of Shadowbox.
Shadowbox is a media viewer that prides itself on being standards compliant, flexible, and easy to use. In most of my exploration of different pop-up style media viewers, it seems that I would have to agree with their stand and say that at this point, Shadowbox is probably my favorite.
Shadowbox and Drupal 7
A pop-up gallery can be a beautiful thing with the proper control
Galleries have always been an interesting subject in the world of Drupal. Many people have their own ideas of what makes a gallery as well as how it is supposed to work. In order to be successful with online galleries, you must have control of what you are doing.
Theming Changes from 6 to 7
Most concepts carry through, but here are a few gotchas.
When I created this site, it was my first Drupal 7 theming project. It was fairly easy to jump right in and take off down the road of theming in Drupal 7, because of my familiarity with Drupal 6. There were, however, a few points in my experience that required me to slow down, do some research, and figure out what has changed.
Grid Systems
A Comparison of CSS Frameworks
I've spent a lot of time looking over various grid systems. I must stay that 960 is the one I tend to use the most, I think it seems to be more main-stream. However, I do often consider other systems when I'm at the early design phase of my work. I wanted to do a post that was a comparison on the CSS Frameworks, but realized that there was already a good resource out there, so I might as well just link to that.
Searching for Icons
A few resources to find the more specific icons you need.
Have you ever been sucked into the abyss of icon sites? I can easily waste hours browsing preset packages for an icon or 2 that may or may not feel quite right for my design. After falling down this rabbit hole a few times, and building a giant library of free-use icons on my hard drive, I decided that there has got to be a better way.
